Alright, time for round 2. No point in getting down. Just try again. And this time, I knew what was coming, so I could be a little calmer for the whole thing.
Back to the nightly needles. Not even flinching at them anymore! Too easy. And more blood tests. Easy again. Although they were still using the same vein, so it was starting to hurt a little bit. They tried but could not get the vein in my left arm. But they were able to find another vein in my arm. Thankfully.
We start again with going in for the first blood test. Like the last cycle, I expected to go back every second day until they deemed me ready for an ultrasound. I was surprised when they emailed me and wanted me in the next day for the ultrasound. Maybe given the first round was getting to know my body and my cycle, not to mention my body getting used to the Puragon injection.
The ultrasound the next day was very easy. Nice sized follicle. Not quite ready yet, so they got me in the next day for another blood test.
Then I get the call. It really is exciting to get that call to tell you when you can go in. I was really hoping to go in on Friday the 23rd. It would have been my step-mum’s birthday. It might seem a little silly, but it felt like she would be there, and that would give me all this luck for it to work if it was on that day. But the next day was pretty good too. Close enough that I still, strangely, felt her sending me good thoughts and luck. I will, one day, tell some stories about her. She was one of the best people in my life. Even writing this is hard. One day.
Anyway, the procedure went fine. I went in by myself this time. Was there early enough to relax in the waiting room with a cuppa.

Then into the procedure room. Same as before. But the Dr was running a little late, so I just sat there waiting. I wasn’t in a rush, had nowhere to be, and it was a Saturday, so parking was free! Played a few games on my phone, did some random BuzzFeed quizzes (and may have become stuck in a Heath Ledger black hole of quizzes!).
I was also texting my new SMBC friend who I met on my last round! She, unfortunately, also got a negative on this try and had her round 2 IUI the day before. So we were still doing it together! All my thoughts were with her the day before, hers with me on my day.
The Dr came in, and this time, I took a photo of the catheter. I don’t think my Mum believed me when I told her how big it was, so I had to get some proof. Dr Low was more than happy to oblige. Check it out here!

Same deal as before and over before you know it! And I watched (what I could see) this time. Watched them draw the sperm into the syringe. And just chatted with the Dr and Nurse. Layed there with my legs up for 20 mins, then went home. Cool, calm and collected. It was done. No point in stressing. Just wait and see and hope for the best.
Wish me luck on round 2. And here’s to the next 2-week wait! Very stressful. But all worth it in the end, I hope.
