4 Weeks Pregnant and Lockdown

So all the excitement of the pregnancy was interrupted with stress just 3 days after finding out. Canberra had its first Covid-19 case in over a year, and we were going into an immediate lockdown.

Working from home didn’t bother me, but I was now pregnant and higher risk; this was a stress I didn’t want. But given ACT decided to go into such a quick lockdown (learning the lessons from NSW, I guess), it did make me feel a lot better. But I also had no food in the house. And I was trying to do my best to eat properly. I was going to go shopping that night. Had my bags and list with me!

Dilemma. Eat takeaway for 2 days and wait for groceries to be delivered, or risk the supermarket. Mum convinced me to wait for grocery delivery. And boy, was I happy I did that. Pictures all over the news of hundreds of panic buyers stripping the aisles bare and not wearing masks! A couple of days later, some of these shops, including the one I would have gone to, were listed as exposure sites.

I did my grocery order and went to add something to it that night, only to discover that most of what I wanted was out of stock. Meat, veggies, fruit. All out. So my order was going to come, but be a little bare.

I jumped onto a company Alpha Fresh Foods, which I had used last year and was very pleased I could order from them to be delivered the next day. Fresh and local produce and meat, on their way. The other groceries still came the next day, but I had removed all the out of stock items. I was fine and couldn’t be more grateful for them which is why I am linking to them.

I had a reasonably healthy takeaway that lasted for lunch the next day also. And I was set. I was working from home, staying away from people. I had good, healthy, baby-friendly food. No panic was needed.

I was also working on a restoration of a buffet hutch cabinet. Thankfully my Mum’s business could send me the paints I needed for this if I ran out. I was set to keep my mind busy. My next blood test was due the following Monday, and given that was an essential service, I was allowed to attend.
