More Tests and Food Aversions

And here was me thinking I’d gotten away with minimal morning sickness. NOPE!

Ok, well, it’s not morning sickness, more of a meat aversion. I cannot look at, touch, or go anywhere near raw meat. If it’s cooked, it’s perfectly fine. Not an issue. This is making it very hard for me to eat. And I’m not someone who could go vegetarian very well. I would probably starve or live off chips or takeaway. Too expensive and too unhealthy.

Thank goodness for pre-cooked meals. Woolies actually have a pretty good selection in their fridges. There are also frozen meals, Lite n Easy, YouFoodz, and more. I am so grateful for these companies. Decent meals, but I can microwave and not feel like I will be sick. Oh, and things like frozen chicken tenders or schnitzel are fine. Go figure! Hope this doesn’t last long, though. I’m really not enjoying it.

I’ve also had to go in and get my Glucose Tolerance Test. Due to my weight, and history of PCOS, they needed me to get tested early.

For those who don’t know, this is a 2 – 3 hour-long test at the pathologist. You fast for 12 hours prior, come in and get your first blood test. Then once that one is done, you get to drink the glucose drink. Now I like sweet drinks. But this is sickly. The first sip is ok. But you have to drink the whole bottle in 5 minutes. Still, thinking back on it makes me cringe.

Then you go out into the waiting room and wait an hour before being called back for another blood test. Then back out for another hour, then back for the final blood test.

Here are some hints for anyone who has to do this:

  • Find a pathologist with a waiting room with comfy chairs. Especially if you are further along.
  • Book an early appointment. Less time without food!
  • Make sure there is a toilet nearby. Be aware you might be a little queasy. But try not to throw up. Otherwise, you have to come back and do it all over again.
  • Bring a book or your phone or something to do. It’s a long and tedious wait.
  • Bring a bottle of water so you can sip on it. They don’t want you drinking too much as it can skew the test, but having it to sip on helped me.
  • Don’t go overboard on food after. You might be hungry. I got a Grill’d burger and chips later, thinking it would be nice. Nope. Felt sick again.
  • Lastly, take the whole day off work for it. I felt horrible after it and just wanted to lie down. I was very glad my boss told me to take the whole day.

Now to wait for the results and hope I don’t have Gestational Diabetes!

    1. Hi Lanie,

Thank you for reading my blog.

I was lucky in that I didn’t have to go through embryo donation, just sperm donation, so I don’t think I would be of much help for your article.
